This was taken at Abraham Lake on my third attempt in just four days. Between the brutal wind and unpredictable weather, I nearly gave up on this shot. But I kept coming back, hoping for the right moment, and finally, it came together.

What drew me in wasn’t just the view, it was what was happening under the surface. Trapped beneath the ice, methane bubbles from decaying plants rise up in layers as the lake freezes. It creates this otherworldly effect, like the earth is exhaling in slow motion. You don’t see this everywhere, and you definitely don’t see it like this every day.

I named this piece Uprising for those frozen bubbles, caught mid-climb, pushing their way toward the surface, suspended in crystal-clear ice. There's movement and energy even in the stillness. A quiet force rising from below.

This image is a reminder that there's beauty in the hidden things, in what’s just beneath the surface, waiting to be seen.
