Aurora Over Castle Mountain was years in the making. The right solar activity, the right cloud cover, the right season, the right night, the alignment of conditions required never quite came together until a cold November night finally delivered everything at once. James stood alone beneath that sky for a long time, watching the light move over a peak he had driven past hundreds of times. There is a particular satisfaction in finally capturing an image you have been carrying in your imagination for years. This one took patience. You can feel that in the photograph.

Castle Mountain is one of the most recognizable peaks in Banff National Park, its distinctive castellated ridgeline rising above the Bow Valley along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta.
