There are nights in the Rockies that feel like they belong to another world, where the sky opens, the mountains hold their breath, and everything around you shifts into something almost unreal. This was one of those nights.

I arrived at Bow Lake with no expectations, just the quiet hope that I might get a good show and walk away with a couple okay shots. Instead, the sky erupted. Waves of neon green rose behind the mountain, then bursts of magenta and soft reds spilled across the clouds like watercolor. For a moment, it didn’t feel like night at all, more like standing inside a living, breathing sky.

The snow around the creek glowed with reflected color, and the stillness of the water turned into a perfect mirror for the chaos happening above. It was one of those scenes you can’t plan, can’t predict, and can’t ever fully explain, you just have to be there, cold fingers and all, ready to press the shutter the second nature decides to go wild.

I created this piece to share the feeling of standing alone in that frozen landscape, watching the aurora dance over the mountains. No noise, no crowds, just the sound of the water beneath the ice and a sky painted by solar winds.
