Story Behind the Image
This was taken on an overcast morning at Lake Minnewanka, standing in front of the well-known lone tree that seems to hold its own no matter the season.
I didn’t expect much that day. The sky was flat, the light was dull, and I figured it would be more of a scouting trip than anything. But I stayed. Watched. Waited. And just for a brief moment, the clouds shifted—and the faintest hint of color broke through.
It wasn’t dramatic or loud. It was subtle. Fleeting. Easy to miss if you weren’t paying attention. But in that soft, quiet light, the scene came to life.
I titled it The Lone Tree not just because of the subject, but because of what it represents—resilience, stillness, and the beauty in small moments that show up when you're not expecting them.
This piece is a reminder that even on grey days, something beautiful can still break through—if you’re willing to be patient.
