Story Behind the Image
This image was taken at Abraham Lake, where a grove of aspens stands partially submerged each fall—if you catch it at just the right time.
It took me several tries to get this shot. The water levels, the light, the timing of the leaves—it all has to line up, and it rarely does for long. The day after I captured this scene, the wind came through and stripped the trees bare. Just like that, it was gone.
That’s what makes this image special to me. It’s a snapshot of a moment that lasted barely more than a breath—fiery fall color rising out of cool, clear water, holding on just a little longer than expected.
I named it Sunken Color because that’s exactly what it felt like—autumn dipping into the lake one last time before disappearing for the year.
This print is a reminder of how brief beauty can be—and why it’s worth chasing.
