This was taken at Vermilion Lakes in Banff—on a night I’ll never forget.

I’ve chased the aurora many times, but this one was different. It was one of the most powerful displays I’ve ever seen. The sky came alive in waves—green, purple, red—dancing across the mountains and reflecting perfectly in the still water below. It didn’t feel real.

There’s something humbling about watching the northern lights. You can’t predict them. You can’t control them. All you can do is show up, wait, and hope. That night, I got lucky—and I was ready for it.

I titled this piece Aurora Over Vermilion Lake because it speaks for itself. No tricks, no exaggeration—just nature putting on a show for those willing to stay up late and look up.

I hope this piece brings a little of that awe into your space—a reminder that the world still holds magic, and it’s closer than we think.
